Mentioned by many ancient writers, the temple was 1,250 ft (380 meters) long and close to 390 ft (120 meters) wide. Mythically, it is suggested that this is where the god Osiris was buried. According to legends, his wife and goddess Isis, cried so hard over his murder that the ancient Nile was created from her tears.
