Cairo

Overseen by the pyramids at Giza and the enigmatic Sphinx, the area we now call Cairo has been a major city since the time of the pharaohs, with each segment retaining much of its history and culture.

Aswan

AswanAswan, Egypt's sunniest southern city and ancient frontier town located about 81 miles south of Luxor, has a distinctively African atmosphere. Its ancient Egyptian name was Syene.  Small enough to walk around and graced with the most beautiful setting on the Nile, the pace of life is slow and relaxing.

Kom Ombo

Kom Ombo Kom Ombo is located on a bend in the river Nile about 50 km north of Aswan. Located on the east bank, Kom Ombo is home to an unusual double temple built during the Ptolemaic and Roman periods. The temple is dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Haroeris ( Horus the Elder ).

Luxor

LuxorLuxor Many festivals were celebrated in Thebes. The Temple of Luxor was the center of the most important one, the festival of Opet. Built largely by Amenhotep III and Ramesses II , it appears that the temple's purpose was for a suitable setting for the rituals of the festival.

Edfu

Edfu Edfu The Temple of Edfu is very dramatic. It is dedicated to Horus and was built in Greco Roman times. Horus was the god of the sky whose eyes were the sun and the moon. He became equated with the king, and therefore the King was Horus manifest.

Abu SiAbu Simbelmbel is a set of two temples near the border of Egypt with Sudan. It was constructed for the pharaoh Ramesses II who reigned for 67 years during the 13th century BC (19th Dynasty).

Alexandria

Alexandria Alexandria The second largest city and the main port of Egypt , Alexandria was built by the Greek architect Dinocrates (332-331 BC) on the site of an old village, Rhakotis, at the orders of Alexander the Great . The city, immortalizing Alexander's name, quickly flourished into a prominent cutural, intellectual , political, and economic metropolis, the remains of which are still evident to this day.
